Foden's history can be dated back to 1856 but their heavy vehicle manufacturing started much later than that with steam being the main form of power until the 1930s when diesel became the choice of fuel with Gardner engines being fitted in most chassis although other makes were available and at one point Foden's own 2 stroke diesel was available. This engine had a sound of it's own and when matched with the 12 speed Foden gearbox, and a driver who could use it perfectly, it was musical. (06/07/07)
