Eight wheelers are a very British thing the first one being built as a steam wagon by Sentinel and then later the idea was taken up by AEC as a diesel powered vehicle. Most manufacturers followed suit and in the 1950s and 60s there would be dozens of chassis types available. Now there are no British manufacturers left and soon the names of Seddon Atkinson, Foden, and ERF will have joined a host of others as only memories or wagons that can be seen at Vintage shows and rallies. The tipper is probably the only type of vehicle where 8 wheelers are still plentiful. (04/05/2007)
